Karen Howe
I am a mother, a wife
and a teacher. My husband and I have been married for 21 years now and we have
three children. Jeramy is 19 and our daughters, Nicole and Sarah are 17 (yes,
twins). I have wanted to become a teacher since my son started kindergarten.
Helping in his classroom I became intrigued by how each individual student
learns. Over the years, I came to understand that just as a singer must sing or
a painter must paint, I must teach. I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Liberal Arts and a Masters Degree in Education as well as a California teaching
credential.
I feel so blessed to
be in a position where I can touch children in such a profound way. I find great
challenge and reward in teaching students the academics they need to be
successful in the future. However, I never fully realized how profoundly I would
be moved to explore the deeper life lessons with my students. I am passionate
about wanting my students to know that they are strong, worthy beautiful people.
I want them to want to think for themselves and learn how to have strong
educated thoughts, arguments and opinions. I want them to consider how they move
through the world, and how the way they move through the world affects it. I
want my students to become socially confident and responsible. And finally, my
students will know that they or their ability is not measured by a test or a
grade. They will see that, yes, they can.
It is the culture and nature
of Chrysalis which not only allows me to teach what I feel is important for
students, but the other teachers here support, encourage and teach the same
ideals. I am so grateful to be one of the few to work in this amazing place.
