I
love my job at Chrysalis because I see miracles happen in young lives and I
enjoy a close relationship with our children, their parents, and our staff.
Chrysalis is a warm and supportive community where children thrive.
There
are many reasons why I believe Chrysalis is a wonderful school. Our focus
is to nourish our children’s love of learning. From my office I
can hear the excitement of children discovering and creating. I see them
totally involved in science experiments, writing poetry, and making craft
projects. I hear cheering and an electric environment, and even see some
tears during simulation games when children are experiencing the history of our
country. I peek in classrooms when students are presenting projects or
practicing for a musical. Just yesterday I watched the Kindergarteners on
their tummies or sitting on the floor carefully counting out colorful beads and
recording their findings on graphs during their math class. Last
week they were experimenting with dry ice making bubbling potions. Our
older children were using math manipulatives to solve more difficult problems in
the morning and dissecting pig hearts and lungs later in the day.
Yesterday our 5th graders had a restaurant and
served us breakfast as a closing activity after reading a great book about a
hungry orphan. I watch children excitedly searching for lizards,
bugs, birds, fish and other creatures while on field study. They have seen
river otters chasing each other just feet away. They have seen snakes and
coyotes, bald eagles, and osprey. Often a teacher will pop into my office
and invite me to come to her classroom because she wants to share the joy of
watching the children positively involved in their activity.
What
fun we have on our school family camping trips! Last weekend families were
hiking, kayaking, doing stream surveys, biking, learning about the gold rush,
and singing, acting, and sharing around the campfire. I love to see the
smiling faces.
Besides
the miracle of children learning, I also see the miracle of children becoming
confident and making friends after coming from a school where they were teased
and hurt. I love to watch each child discover strengths and make
strides in academic performance. Just like a beautiful butterfly develops
within the safety of its chrysalis, our school provides a safe, caring
environment for children to progress and learn.
There is no greater reward!
