Twin Drainage Play - 5th View
March 1, 2009 - Moderate rain. My play lies beyond the manzanita bushes at the top of the slope to the left. The two channels in the 4th View converge in the middle of the picture. The first gully-forming plunge pool can be seen in the lower left. This is a common pattern; when two channels converge, the exponential power within their combined flow has enough energy to start cutting gullies that then begin eroding headward. I hypothesize that the channel in the background will fill in and spread out over time with less runoff coming down. It will be interesting to see what happens to the gully head in the foreground.
