ART 10-27-11
The theme of this lesson was American Folk Artists. We were amazed that most of these artists had little or no schooling. We made observations and discussed details in the painting "Leaving the Manor." There was a painting by Thomas Nast called "Christmas Eve." The painting with lots of black and whites used was "The Domino Players" by Horace Pippin. We looked for details of clothing people were wearing, what the people were doing, and what colors were predominate in the paintings. Our art extension was using potatoes for prints to create heads of the people in our painting. We used mixed medias of paint, watercolor, and oil pastels. They turned out great! Look for your "potato head" family portraits coming home soon! Continued thanks to Mrs. Loustalet for these wonderful art lessons!28.10.2011. 15:20
ART 10-20-11
We talked about Pieter De Hoach and his painting "The Pantry." Then we saw a painting called "Woman in Blue" by Johannes Vermeer. We were able to make observations of the clothing people in the painting were wearing to determine what their economic status was. The students learned that it was not common for families to have pets, that was more the higher class who owned pets. Our last painting we discussed was "Woman in a Garden" by Claude Monet. The students used fabric to create people's clothes on their drawings.28.10.2011. 15:13
ART! 9-15-11
Mrs. Loustalet came again today for another art lesson! We learned about Raoul Dufy, Henry Gassy, and Stefano di Giovanni Sassetta. We discussed trees and seasons in the artists paintings. We then used view finders and went outside to find the perfect "section" of a tree to sketch. Our pencil sketches came out great. We are learning that art doesn't have to be perfect or follow exact rules. It was fun hearing the students compliment each others sketches.15.09.2011. 15:48
ART! 9-8-11
Today we had our first art lesson with Mrs. Loustalet (Tallee's mom). She talked to us about some famous artists like Albert Marquet, Edward Munch, and John Singer Sargent. We got to see some of their works of art and learn more about them. Then, we used mixed media of oil pastels and watercolors to create a Bridge Scene. They turned out great and we had a lot of fun too! Look for them in your Star Folders going home next week. We look forward to many future lessons with Mrs. Loustalet!08.09.2011. 18:13
